NHS Lothian is currently redeveloping the Royal Edinburgh Hospital campus in a number of phases since 2015 until 2025.
The exciting redevelopment programme has already seen the replacement of inpatient facilities at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital and the Robert Fergusson National Brain Injury Unit with modern, fit-for-purpose healthcare buildings.
The redevelopment will also consider the inclusion of potential services on other hospital sites.
The £48 million phase one redevelopment started in January 2015 and was completed in 2017. Phase one redevelopments included new accommodation for the adult acute mental health inpatient service, older people’s mental health assessment, Intensive Psychiatric Care Service (IPCU) and the new Robert Fergusson national brain injury unit.
The redevelopment of the campus is planned to be undertaken in phased stages, continuing with Phase Two shortly. In November 2014, the Scottish Government committed a further £120 million for future phases of the campus redevelopment. This will allow NHS Lothian to bring together Phases Two and Phase Three of the programme of works.
Phase Two works is likely to include, but is not limited to, a new Learning Disabilities Inpatient Service, a new Ritson Clinic Substance Misuse, a newly refurbished Affleck centre to accommodate psychiatric rehabilitation unit, a new low secure services and a new Facilities Management Centre and work on this will continue to develop this year.
