The new East Lothian Community Hospital was built on the site of the former Roodlands Hospital in Haddington to improve the quality of care for local people.
It brings together services from Roodlands and Herdmanflat onto the same site in a modern, purpose-built building.
The new hospital has increased inpatient bed capacity by 60 per cent and will help to support the return of other services.
Staff played a key role in the design of the new building and influenced the plans and location of their departments.
The project team engaged extensively with over 300 local people, including neighbours close to the Roodlands site.
The plans were developed by NHS Lothian, East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership and Hub South-East Scotland. Construction began in 2016 with the hospital opening to patients in 2019.
