Medicines are a part of everyday life for most people, and we know that a high volume of medicines are wasted at a high cost to the NHS and to the environment. It’s estimated that in NHS Scotland about 1 in 10 medicines go to waste.
There has been considerable work to date on reducing medicines waste within NHS Lothian, but as NHS Scotland commences a work stream on sustainable prescribing with a specific focus on the environment, it’s a good time to take stock and challenge ourselves to make a bigger difference.
Guest speakers include:
Sophie Rippinger, Senior Circular Economy Manager will outline the requirements of waste management.
Chair – Katherine Davidson, Consultant in Pharmaceutical Public Health.
Douglas McCabe, Senior Clinical Pharmacist currently working with the Environmental Sustainability Team will give an overview of pharmaceutical waste.
Reshma Chhana-Brown, Clinical Lead Pharmacist will present Mymeds campaign.
